BJA Playbooks: Program Management building blocks

Why: Passionate about people, growth and maximizing self-fulfillment journey.

Curating over a decade of high impact experiences, connecting the dots between ideation and reality. Hopefully inspiring someone out there to forge a meaningful path forward with a starting berth to create, inspire and bring structure to business and personal growth outcomes.

Purpose/Use-case: Developing and operating high impact programs – build for the future, sustain or iterate existing objectives across multiple spheres of life.

Scenario 1: Ground Zero – Build for the future

Scenario 2: Sustain & Iterate – Existing programs + Manage day-to-day programs, backdrop impact initiatives.

Both connected to a vision, short to long term goals required to achieve an overarching vision or specific purpose.

1. Scope the challenge/burning platform/goal:

What: What do we want to solve for, develop, build, sustain or iterate

Who: Identify and spar with Key stakeholders who have skin in the game or needed to make this happen

Strategic Alignment vs vision: What good & winning looks like & why. Connection to mission, now, mid term and later.

2. Gap Analysis: What’s working, not working, could be better. Buy-in and alignment.

Point of departure: Problem statement (quantifiable) + Reality + Complications

Deep Dive (Root cause analysis): 5 whys, key drivers (impact vs lead time vs effort segmentation)

Backlog and Prioritization: High/low impact vs lead time (now, mid term, later) + Business case (cost of investment vs impact quantified)

3. Road map:

• Desired end goal, who, how and when

• High impact, now (low hanging fruits), midterm, later plan

•Medium to low impact, now (low hanging fruits), midterm, later plan

•What good & winning looks like (measurable, smart)

4. Risks and mitigation

•What: Scope, impact/un-intended consequences, Key stakeholders with skin in the game – driving the risk or with the ability to mitigate

•How: What needs to hold true to mitigate/keep pulse, done and by who

5. How: Engagement, visibility, operating system, measurement and speed of impact.

• Enablers: Needed to succeed, resources, assets, buy-in, name it.

• When: now – 3-6 months, mid – 7- 18 months, later > 19 months

Execute & Iterate:

Visibility loop, smart measurements, raise burning platforms, celebrate milestones, build followership
